Therefore (Heb 10:19–25)
A Study of Hebrews: Lesson 27
The English word “therefore” is an important signpost. When one sees “therefore,” one should stop and ask, “What is it there for?” That’s a helpful way of remembering the word’s significance. There is an eventual movement in almost every epistle from “Here is what is true” to “Here is how we should live.”
In verses 19–25, which is one long sentence in Greek, the Hebrews author transitions away from the book’s main theological argument and toward practical life application to life. Specifically, what follows is predicated on two beautiful realities: (1) “We have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus” (v 19), and (2) “We have a great priest over the house of God” (v 21).
